Okay, we are down to the last 6 days before Christmas. Actually that is only 5 cycling shopping days because I know you are shopping local and the bike shops are closed on Sundays. So, make your final list and check it twice because here is a list of items your cyclist would love to have under the tree or in the stocking:
Cat-eye, Serfas, CygoLite, NiteRider, or Planet Bike – front or back it does not matter, but your cyclists can always use an extra light. If the light is not rechargeable, throw in a pack of AA or AAA batteries.
This one is on my Christmas wish list. For your weight conscious racer, purchase the lightest weight tool with the most basic functions. A simple multi-tool will have 2, 3, 4, 5, 6mm Allen wrenches and a Phillips screwdriver. For your randonneur or your touring cyclist, the full meal deal multi-tool may be appreciated. It will include a chain tool, 8 different Allen wrenches, flat head and phillips screwdrivers and an the all important kitchen sink.
3. Mini Pump or CO2 Tire Inflator:
All cyclists should carry either a mini pump or CO2 Tire Inflator. If you know that your biker already owns the CO2 Tire Inflator, then grab them some extra cartridges. If they have both, buy them a patch kit – you will be amazed how often you suffer the double flat tire day.
4. Winter Accessories:
Arm or Leg Warmers, shoe or helmet covers, gloves, a baclava or even a couple packets of chemical hand warmers. All of these items will be welcome on a day when your cyclist is trying to get in their long slow distance miles.
5. Bike Food Items:
Gu, Stingers, Powerbars, Shot Blocks, Hammer Gel, or NUUN. Sneak around and look into the seat packs on your cyclist’s bike. Hopefully, nothing moldy will drop out and you can get a peek into what they prefer.
6. Donation to Bike Walk Mississippi’s Safety Campaign:
For the cyclist who truly has everything, make a donation in their name to the I Share the Road Safety Campaign. Depending upon the amount of your donation, your cyclist can receive some additional bike related goodies. You can even print off a really cool donation card to present to them!
Still stumped for an item for the stocking? Ask one of the good folks at our local bike shops. They will be glad to help you. Or, just go ahead and get your cycling loved one a gift certificate so they can pick out the gear they have had their eye on!
