By | | No Comments

Small town authentic charm and hospitality, stretches of national scenic byway with a splash of new urbanism gears you up to Get Your Ride On for the jumpstart of cycling season rides! The Natchez Trace Century Ride, starting and ending in Ridgeland, provides an experience for riders of all ages and abilities.

Spring will have sprung with warmer temperatures……the glimmering waters and abundant wildlife around the Ross Barnett Reservoir will awaken the spirit for the journey. Countryside stretches in Madison County and Pelahatchie steady the pedals for reflection, and around town spins delight with discovery of each place.

With your choice of distances from 25, 50, 62 and 100 miles with mild to moderate elevation, it is a great ride to find your stride and other specialties along the route. There will be “energizer” stops highlighting local music, food and hands on fun every 10-15 miles… kudos to all but hooray to those who relish the journey.

The Century Ride will have a mass/wave start at 7:00 a.m. for 50, 62, and 100 miles. 25 mile riders will begin at 7:30 a.m. Ride with friends, ride with family or solo the day….but the more the merrier we say.

And you won’t want to miss “Ridgeland Rockin’ after the Ride” a celebration of a successful ride with culinary delights, toe-tapping music and stories to take home. There will be door prizes galore and the chance to win the grand prize giveaway of a bike. Must be present at Rockin’ After the Ride to win. Sponsored by Ridgeland Tourism Commission.

Years ago, Mississippi had another two-day ride, called Bike Across Mississippi. It started in Meridian, traveled to Morton for the overnight stay and finished in Vicksburg with a ceremonial dipping of wheels in the Mississippi River.

The one type of ride that Mississippi has never hosted is a weeklong cycling event. But that is about to change! Bike Walk Mississippi, our statewide cycling advocacy group, in partnership with several other organizations, will sponsor its first cycling tour in the fall of 2016. Read More
